(P1502) - QCoal Byerwen Mine Power Plant Study

AE Projects completed a High Voltage (HV) power supply upgrade options study as part of the QCoal Byerwen Mine project prefeasibility study.  The upgrade study focused on the existing HV switchyard, overhead lines and substation facilities.  Study scope included data collection, civil design, fault analysis, earthling and lightning protection analysis and arc flash study.

(P1608) - QCoal Byerwen Power Supply Implementation

High Voltage (HV) power supply upgrade preliminary design study which focused on the HV infrastructure as part of the QCoal Byerwen Project feasibility study. The scope included the following design and costing elements 66kV Supply to site, 66kV and 11kV Reticulation around Site and associated distribution infrastructure.

(P1560) - Dyno Nobel Moranbah Arc Flash Study

AE Projects completed an Arc Flash Study for Dyno Nobel Plant in Moranbah for Incitec Pivot Limited. AE Projects completed a review of the arc flash points for the functional levels on each plant switchboard from 11kV down to 415V.


Confidential Client/Project – major Australian Power Station

Partnered with GHD to undertake a study to develop a strategy and costings for mothballing the original stage of the station.  Consideration was given to regulatory requirements for resumption within 2 months for 1 unit and 6 months for others.  The services included condition assessment, strategy development and costings.

AGL Torrens Island Power Station

Boiler drum level instrumentation review against code and standards compliance investigation.  Review of previous reports, installed system information and relevant regulatory requirements and standards.


GDF Suez Hazelwood Power Station

Plant operational systems manual development following controls upgrade.  Review of existing plant information for control systems and development of a manual for use by operators and maintenance personnel.


BioPower (Wave generation)

Port Fairy Wave Generation Pilot Plant Electrical Systems:

  • Review of interconnection system design

  • Review protection systems for compliance with supply authority

  • Protection relay settings and system FAT

  • Commissioning support

Confidential Client (Photovoltaic)

Design supervision and verification of a control system design and implementation for a substantial (3.8 MW) photovoltaic plant.  The system was connected to a weak rural distribution system.  The services included meeting the supply authority’s stringent power criteria at the point of common coupling.


Loy Yang A Power Station – Arc Flash Study

Developed a new PTW power system model utilising information provided from site.  Undertook an arc flash study and produced a report recommending improvements to lower energy incident levels.

Loy Yang Mine – Arc Flash Study

On site data collection, power system modelling and arc flash study.  Reviewed protection settings on high incident energy switchboards and provided a report recommending improvements to lower energy incident levels.


Energy Developments Limited (EDL) – Control Systems Upgrades and Optimisation

Elical have been undertaking a range of projects to assist EDL in controlling and monitoring their power generators remotely from their centralised control room.  These services have included improvements to ramp-up and systems operations.

Energy Developments Limited (EDL) – Protection Study and Audit

Protection study for EDL to develop a reference document for protection systems and then conduct an audit on 3 of their power station assets.  A risk assessment was carried out on the non-compliances and budget costings developed for remedial work.


Energy Developments Limited (EDL) – Power System Modelling and Arc Flash Assessment

Elical were engaged to undertake a power system modelling and arc flash assessment for 3 of their power stations using PTW software tools.

Projects undertaken by Elical personnel include:

  • AGL Bogong Power Station (Victoria): Owner’s engineer for electrical and control systems including supply authority interfacing.

  • Southern Hydro Eildon PS G3, G4: Recommissioning including engineering management, generator refurbishment management and protection systems.

  • Southern Hydro McKay Creek: Upgrade of protection and control systems design.


(P1583) - MMG Rosebery Mine ETAP Model

AE Projects completed engineering design update and verification of the ETAP Load Flow model for the electrical assets at MMG’s Rosebery copper mine.
