Loy Yang A Arc Flash Study

AGL Energy requested AEP Elical to complete an Arc Flash Study for the Loy Yang 'A' Power Station; the largest power station in Victoria.

The first phase of this work included developing a complete power system model for the power stations network using the SKM Powertools software. Following AEP Elical's initial findings, recommendations for the reduction of the dangerous incident energy levels at several switchboards were presented to AGL. These recommendations included the selection of new protective devices and device settings. After these devices were installed, AEP Elical was engaged to perform an Arc Flash Study on the modified boards.

Working closely with AGL, AEP Elical was successful in providing a cost-effective solution to remedy the unsafe Arc Flash incident energy levels at Loy Yang 'A' Power Station. This work mitigated the risks of the incident energy levels exceeding the allowable Hazard Risk Category Level of the site and achieved compliance with company standards.
