Ashane Godamunne
Electrical Engineer
Ashane began working with AEP Elical as an Electrical Engineer in late 2019 after completing his studies at the University of Queensland, with Honours. In the period he has worked at AEP Elical, Ashane has played key roles in the BHP Mitsubishi Alliance Functional Safety MoBMACS project, EDL Wingfield 2 Biodome Project , EDL Wingfield 1 Emergency Shut Down System integration project and Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT) Machine Condition Assessments. His other key clients include, BHP Mitsui Coal (BMC), Glencore (Mount Isa Mines) and Nyrstar.
Most recently, Ashane undertook an assessment of the current functional safety standards across BMA’s Eight Mine sites. From these assessments, electrical circuit modifications were proposed to upgrade all motor drives with emergency stops or machines with Safety Instrumented Functions to a Category 3 architecture.
On top of this, Ashane also undertook electrical systems design and drafting works in accordance with AS3000:2018 wiring rules and company standards on the EDL Wingfield 2 Biodome Project. His responsibilities included cable and conduit layouts, power cable design, instrumentation layouts and considerable involvement with the electrical supply and installation scope of work document. He was also jointly responsible for project management, progress tracking, stakeholder engagement and document controls.
Throughout Ashane’s undergraduate degree at UQ, he has had the opportunity to accumulate industry related experience at several engineering company’s. Most noteworthy was his involvement with Queensland Health at the PA hospital that saw him assume partial responsibility for the delivery of specialised engineering advice to various stakeholders, analysis and support services.
In early 2020, Ashane was also selected to present his undergraduate honours thesis on the detection of Leukemia using Electromagnetic Signals for the Best Student Paper Award. Both his paper and presentation were assessed by a panel of Senior Ph.D. experts from many different countries at the 4th Australian Microwave Symposium.
